Kate, the main protagonist, lived her entire childhood in rural villages. She lived with her father (her older brother) and her strict Christian mom (her father). However, one day the family is broken up, her father leaves, and her older sister is sent to the big city. Kate is 18 years old. Kate recently finished high school and is now ready to begin looking for higher education. Julia is Kate’s older sister and invites her to come to her home to help her apply for the college she has enrolled in. While the school is free, it offers an unusual approach to education. Julia offers Kate a job, and she’s thrilled to begin a new chapter in a different place. Perhaps her life won’t be as glamorous or exciting as she would like.
